Professional Development is THE key to success in a Digital Learning Environment!

In addition to developing new skills for instruction and classroom management in the Digital Learning Environment and designing a Web-Based Curriculum, teachers need time to communicate with each other.

Having time to share ideas about their successes and failures is new to most teachers. However, this type of discussion is even more important to developing successful Web-Based Instruction than actual training on technology applications.

Rubrics to guide instruction in a Digital Learning Environment:

• Educational Philosophy/Teaching Statement
• "Hybrid" or "Blended" Class Syllabus
• Web-Based Curriculum
• Blended Instruction Lesson Plan
• Course Management System, CMS (Moodle)
• Student Class Work Record

Professional development sessions at Crescent Public Schools are designed to include these eight characteristics:

1. Training materials are available through Moodle, the school's online Course Management System (CMS).   Possibilities
2. Activities are directly related to the Web-Based content used by teachers.
3. Training materials are consistent with the District Technology Goals.
4. Teachers are provided an opportunity for meaningful engagement with colleagues and course materials.
5. All members of the school community are involved.
6. Training addresses different levels of teacher knowledge, skills and interest.
7. Complex topics are delivered over multiple sessions.
8. Topics include follow-up activities.

 
Senate Bill 1485, July 1, 2006 established Professional Development reporting on:

1. Increasing the Academic Performance Index for the district and each school site.
2. Closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.
3. Inreasing student achievement as demonstrated on state-mandated tests and the ACT.
4. Increasing high school graduation rates.
5. Decreasing college remediation rates.
