Welcome!!! Mrs. Sherri Anderson
                                                       Teaching Philosophy
In our classroom, each child is a unique individual with his or her special talents and qualities.  Each student has individual talents, culture, and diversity of learning style which helps each child to succeed.  My goal as a teacher is for each child to feel safe and comfortable to learn and gain confidence in his or her abilities.
Student learning is based on individual needs, using grade level  curriculum each student uses in his or her general education classroom. Some students may need access to below grade level curriculum to meet his/her individual needs in both the general education and special education classroom.  Accommodations allow for student diversity in approach to learning styles and motivates the students to succeed.  This approach helps the students to seamlessly integrate fro the special education classroom to the general education classroom.
Assessment is based on observation, demonstration, performance, and work samples of assignments and tasks completed by the student.  Student's work is evaluated on skills reading, language arts, math and other academic areas to determine level of progress.  Grades are based on demonstration, performance, test and work samples completed by the student with or without accommodations.
Assessment data is used to reteach, reinforce, and present information in a different way for academic areas that need to be strengthened, so that the student will have a better understanding of the concept.
Discipline procedures are based on positive reinforcement of choices, respect for others, and self control.  Our classroom uses a color code system with verbal and visual cues.  Each student enters on blue; which is a fresh start.  The color yellow is the code word to pause, take a breath, refocus, and make a choice to change to the appropriate behavior.  The color orange is the code word to go to the refocus zone for a short break.  This can be teacher or student choice.  The color red is the code word to to the principal for a refocus break or discipline.
