CHS Cheerleaders Attend UCA Cheer Camp

June 6-8 the Crescent High School Cheerleaders attended
Universal Cheerleading Association’s cheer camp at the
University of Oklahoma. The 2011-2012 cheerleaders are
Aundrea White, Haleigh Stout, Kiley Thomas, Angel Harris,
Kennedy Harsh, Ashley Portwood, Sammy Smith, Mallory Forsgren,
Kaylea Hoeltzel, Hannah Worden, Macy Lahr, Taiylor Johnson,
Paige Johnson, and Bailey Barton.

The girls practiced for several weeks prior to camp to prepare for the opening competitions at camp. Also during this time, the girls worked on stunts, cheers, and they did conditioning. For the opening competition at camp, the girls performed the fight song. They received a blue superior ribbon for this performance.

Camp went from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. each day. The girls were taught cheers, dances, stunts, and they worked on their jumps. Each evening the girls were evaluated on material they learned that day. For each cheer or dance, they had to incorporate stunts. The first night they performed a cheer and received a blue superior ribbon. The second night they performed a dance and received a red excellent ribbon. On the last day, parents were invited to watch final evaluations. For final evaluations, the girls performed both the cheer and dance, and they received a gold superior rating, which is the highest of awards!

Not only did the girls do great at evaluations, they earned many other awards. Each evening they were awarded a spirit stick, for continued enthusiasm throughout the day. Kennedy Harsh and Kiley Thomas earned a very special award, which is the “Pin It Forward Award” for kindness, respect, helping when not asked, or other notable acts. Kiley Thomas, Mallory Forsgren, Paige Johnson, Kaylea Hoeltzel, and Aundrea White all competed in the jump off competition. A huge individual award that was passed out the last day was the All-American Nominees. Kiley Thomas, Haleigh Stout, Angel Harris, Kaylea Hoeltzel, and Mallory Forsgren were selected and given the opportunity to tryout for an All-American squad. Bringing home this honor was Kiley Thomas.

The best award the girls earned was the Leadership Award. The Leadership Award was voted on by all the squads at camp, and was based on who they felt demonstrated the most leadership.

Coach Bonnie Casteel is very proud of the squad and is looking forward to a successful year cheering on the Tigers and promoting school spirit!
