Mrs. Cutter's Wish List

Class Syllabus

  • Reading--Vocabulary development, reading comprehension, and literary elements will be taught. Tests will be given every Thursday.
  • Spelling--We will complete a spelling unit each week that goes with our reading story. Spelling tests will be given on Friday.
  • Math--Saxon math is taught. Basic skills include: addition and subtraction, multiplication with two digit numbers, long division, addition and subtraction of fractions, and beginning geometry. A lesson will be taught each day and students will be assigned the mixed practice, which consists of 26-30 problems, for homework. Tests will be given after every 5 lessons.
  • English--The following topics will be covered: capitalization, punctuation, subjects and predicates, nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and pronouns. Writing skills will also be taught.
  • Social Studies--The five United States regions will be taught. We will learn about the geography and culture of the five different regions: the Northeast, the Southeast, the Middle West, the Southwest, and the West. Students will learn the capital of each state. We will also study Oklahoma History.
  • Science-- Students will learn about the following in science: animals, plants, human body systems, ecosystems, earthquakes and volcanoes, rocks and minerals, fossils, patterns on earth and in space, matter and energy, and forces and motion. Students can also choose to participate in the Science Fair.

  • Grades: Grades will be given in all subjects. The scale is as follows: 90-100 is an A, 80-89 is a B, 70-79 is a C, 60-69 is a D, and below 60 is an F.

"Hold yourself responsible for a higher standard than anyone else expects of you." -- Henry Ward Beecher

Homework/ Late Work

Time will be provided each day to complete daily assignments.  In the event a student does not complete an assignment, it becomes homework.  All assignments are due first thing the following morning.  Each student will be provided five late paper coupons each nine weeks.  If a student fails to turn a paper in on time, they may turn it in one day late with a coupon.  After that, late papers will not be accepted.

Absent Work

If a student is absent from school, they are responsible for making up all work missed for the days absent.  All of the missed assignments will be on the student's desk.  They need to see the teacher for further instructions.  Students will have the same number of days to make up work that they were absent.   For example, if the student missed two days, they would have two days after returning to make up the work.

AR Points

Students are encouraged to read a variety of good literature.  However, students may read Accelerated Reader books and take tests to obtain AR points.   There is a point goal set for each grade level.  Students reaching this goal will have the opportunity to attend a field trip at the end of the year to Celebration Station.  The point goal for fourth grade is 55 points.  This goal must be reached by the end of April.  Good Luck and Happy Reading !!!

Many thanks for taking a moment to look at my wish list.  I always appreciate help in making our classroom a cozier more efficient place for my students to learn.  Please don't go out and spend a lot of money on any of these items!  Maybe you are redecorating , or have some of these items lying around your house.  If you have something else that you think might be perfect for our classroom, please let me know!
