Fourth Grade
I hope the following information will be helpful in understanding the requirements for fourth grade students this year. All PASS objectives are taught with emphasis placed on higher order thinking skills.
Reading: We focus on vocabulary development, reading comprehension, and literary elements. Tests are given every Thursday. A love of reading is modeled by teachers, and students are encouraged to read and accumulate AR points. Fourth graders need 55 points to attend the AR field trip.
Spelling: Students will do a weekly spelling unit. Each unit consists of two worksheets, various activities and games, then the test on Friday.
Math: Saxon Math is taught. Emphasis is on the basic skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication with two-digit numbers, long division, addition and subtracton of fractions, and beginning geometry. Tests are given after every fifth lesson.
English: Capitalization, punctuation, subjects and predicates, and parts of speech are covered. Writing is emphasized.
Social Studies: Students study the geography, history, and culture of the five United States regions. They also learn the location of each state and its capital. The last nine weeks is spent on learning about Oklahoma.
Science: Animals, plants, human body systems, ecosystems, earthquakes, volcanoes, rocks and minerals, fossils, patterns on Earth and in space, matter, energy, forces and motion are all studied during the year. Students may also choose to participate in the Science Fair.
Grades: 90-100=A, 80-89=B, 70-79=C, 60-69=C, below 60=F
