20 points		 The first sentence in the paragraph is the thesis statement.
(There are no exceptions to this rule.)		 10

(Thesis statements are not questions. Thesis statements do not begin, "this paragraph is about".)		 10    
Your Evidence

35 points		 The paragraph provides the reasons for your position.
(You must give specific reasons for your position.)		 15    
Your reasons include scientific information as evidence.
("Just because" is not scientific evidence.)		 10    
Information in the paragraph is presented in the student's own words, not "cut and pasted" from research sources.
(You are communicating your own ideas, not those of someone else.)		 10

45 points		 The paragraph is typed using a standard 12 or 14 point font.
(If there is any question about what "standard" means - ask!)

Some assignments may be hand written. For those assignments, you must write NEATLY.

Self-evaluation Students are expected to honestly evaluate their own work. If the difference between the student evaluation and the teacher evaluation is more than 10 points, 5 points will be deducted from the teacher's score when the grade is recorded.
Deadline All assignments are expected to be completed by the assigned deadline. Paragraphs will be accepted the day after the deadline for 3/4 credit. No credit will be given after this time.
