Indian Relocation:

  • Cherokee's ancestral lands capital in Georgia - New Echota
     
  • Gold was found in Georgia which would eventualy get the Cherokee's removed from their ancestral lands.
     
  • Samuel Worcester
    • Cherokee Missionary who did religious work to help the Cherokee Indians.
    • Samuel was placed in prison for not signing a loyalty oath to the state of Georgia.
    • Worcester vs Georgia
      • Supreme court case in which the Cherokees fought versus the state of Georgia for their rights.
      • Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Cherokee.
     
  • Andrew Jackson
    • In response to the Supreme Court's decision, he was quoted as saying "let them enforce it!"
     
  • These signed treaty of Cherokee lands:  
  • Eastern Band of Cherokee
    • Occupation - Farmers and Merchants
     
  • Seminole
    • The Seminole Indian were the hardest of the 5 Civilized Tribes to be removed.
    • Also most costly!
    • Wool clothing - Heat!
    • Osceolo - Seminole Chief who fought hard against removal.
